Asbestos Products - Asbestos Mastic
Mastic is a type of heavy duty adhesive that may contain asbestos fibres. Asbestos mastic was produced from the 1940's to 1980's. Asbestos mastic is an especially strong glue that was used to bond surfaces together during building construction (such as on flat felt roofs).
Fire resistive asbestos mastic was often used in areas where heat may be a concern or where Fire Regulations required a heat-resistant product to be used.
Asbestos mastics are regarded as a low risk material that may be managed in-situ. The 'glue' properties of the mastic prevent the asbestos fibres becoming airborne under normal circumstances.
However, if the asbestos mastic is deteriorating or you plan to carry out refurbishment work that will disturb the material, dust containing asbestos fibres may become airborne and pose a health risk to the building occupants.
We recommend asbestos testing by our experienced surveyors to determine whether or not asbestos fibres are present in the mastic. We will also assess the risk to you and your family or staff and give you free advice on how to safely manage, repair or remove the asbestos mastic.
